Cointrust App
Cointrust App: an original iPhone application for sound-based coin testing, UX research and product development.
Context
Cointrust was an original product: an iPhone app for testing gold and silver coins using sound. Project start: 2013 (registration of the cointrustapp.com domain).
Problem
The work required building an application as a complete product, rather than as part of a larger business.
Paweł’s role
I led the product work from zero as its creator.
Key decisions
I had two challenges to overcome. The first was to find out whether people were interested in testing coins by sound at all and whether they would see it as a credible way to verify authenticity — after all, these are coins worth hundreds, sometimes over a thousand dollars each. I explored this through conversations and discussions in forums and groups, where I showed samples of how the app worked.
The second challenge was technological: without AI, I had to design an algorithm from scratch that could compare a recording with stored sound patterns and determine whether a coin was authentic or counterfeit. That engineering side was the most enjoyable for me: discovering new things and forging my own path.
Solution
The result was an iPhone application for testing the authenticity of gold and silver coins using sound.
