Science and Religion
Science and Religion: Paweł Jurewicz’s first major PHP4/MySQL website, a materials library shaped by data-model decisions.
Context
The philosophy journal “Science and Religion” was a library of articles, books and translations created by the academic society at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Zielona Góra. Project start: 2004 — Paweł's first website, built during his studies, before intercedo was founded (2006).
Problem
The site needed a structure that could hold different kinds of material and describe authors in a way that served the library.
Paweł’s role
I built the website from scratch while learning PHP4 and MySQL 4.0 from books.
Key decisions
Together with people involved in the project, I discussed the data model: including how to record multi-part given names and surnames, titles of nobility, and suffixes such as “Jr.”.
Solution
The result was a PHP4 and MySQL 4.0 website that organised the materials library and its author data.
